Freeman, Tomei To Star In Prop 8 Play On Broadway
FIRST PUBLISHED: August 17, 2011 1:11 PM EDT NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Anthony Edwards, Morgan Freeman, Cheyenne Jackson, Christine Lahti, Rob Reiner, Yeardley Smith and Marisa Tomei will appear in a one-night-only reading on Broadway of a play about Proposition 8. On Wednesday, producers announced some of the cast members who will perform in Dustin Lance Blacks play 8 as part of a fundraiser at the Eugene ONeill Theatre on Sept. 19. Proposition 8 is the measure approved by California voters in 2008 that bans gay marriage in the state. A federal judge struck down the law last year. That ruling is being appealed. The play, which is based on the trial transcript and interviews, will be directed by Tony Award-winning actor and director Joe Mantello. Black won the Oscar for Milk, his biopic of gay-rights pioneer Harvey Milk. Copyright 2011 by Associated Press.
